Music Therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.
Are you feeling nervous? Anxious? Depressed? Isolated? Stressed?
If you have been discharged from the NICU or the SCBU in the last 12 months, we can offer a way for you to connect with, and develop your relationship with, your baby/babies through group Music Psychotherapy, whilst also supporting you on your mental health journey.
At Thrive Hive Music Psychotherapy, you are invited to connect with other parents who have had similar experiences. Group Music Psychotherapy aids connection and provides a safe space to share feelings and reflections.
We also offer one to one sessions for parents who have experienced significant medical or psychological trauma during their NICU journey, where your thoughts and feelings will be kept confidential and can be shared in a safe space.
Music Psychotherapy reduces stress in premature babies, by improving heart rates and oxygen saturation (from 96% to 99%). This is particularly important when working with babies who have experienced medical trauma. Our aim is to reduce the long term effects of the NICU experience on you and your baby.
If you are having difficulties with breast feeding, we can provide steady, rhythmic sounds during feeding, which can help babies to maintain a steady mouth motion.
Each session will be different and led by the needs of you and your baby/babies.
Sessions can include, but are not limited to, gentle singing / humming, playing instruments, talking and connecting with other parents who have experienced similar trauma.
Each group Music Psychotherapy session lasts an hour, and you can book into a block of 10 sessions.
Somerset Thrive Hive Music Psychotherapy is a registered charity. We accept income based donations to the charity for accessing our services.
